Brunei Darussalam has made clear commitments to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and advancing national climate change objectives. As part of these efforts, the country is exploring pathways to economic diversification that are both inclusive and environmentally responsible.
The Sustainable Economy Forum 2025 will provide a platform for examining how sustainability can be integrated across all sectors of the economy. The Forum will cover how sustainability is relevant to a broad range of industries and will include a deeper focus on tourism and hospitality. This reflects the growing interest in eco-tourism as a sector that can support diversification while aligning with national sustainability priorities.
Brunei’s natural assets - its rainforests, biodiversity, and cultural heritage - create potential for eco-tourism to contribute meaningfully to economic development. However, achieving this requires practical strategies, greater awareness of sustainability practices, and a stronger alignment between public and private actors. The Forum will convene stakeholders from across the economy to discuss challenges, share case studies, and identify practical steps for adopting more sustainable business models.
Organised by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council Brunei and the APEC Business Advisory Council Brunei, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Economy and the Tourism Development Department, this Forum forms part of the Brunei Economy Programme. It reflects an ongoing commitment to support informed, coordinated action toward national sustainability goals.
